Record-breaking jockey Hollie Doyle has been handed a one-month suspended ban after testing positive for banned substance Dihdyrocodeine.
Doyle was taking Dihdyrocodeine, a painkiller, following surgery on her elbow after a fall at Wolverhampton in January.
She tested positive when returning to the saddle in April.
A disciplinary panel accepted the breach was “unintended” and suspended her ban for one year.
The 26-year-old, who became the first female jockey to win a French Classic in 2022, says she stopped consuming the painkiller days after it was prescribed due to felling unwell and switched to ibuprofen and paracetamol instead.
“After some research we found that the contamination came from a packet of ibuprofen which I had purchased when riding overseas, that unknowingly contained small amounts of Dihdyrocodeine. The BHA accepts that this was the likely source of the positive,” Doyle said in a statement.
“I’m extremely grateful to my family, friends and employers for the support and advice over the last 5 months. We’re all very glad it’s over.”
Doyle is free to continue riding but the sanction will be imposed if she fails another test in the next 12 months.
