Calli Thackery ran the joint second-fastest marathon by a British woman on her debut as she won the McKirdy Micro Marathon in New York.

Thackery, 30, crossed the line in a time of two hours 22 minutes 17 seconds to go level with Charlotte Purdue and only behind Paula Radcliffe on the all-time list.

Her time is also is well within the Olympic qualifying standard of 2:26:50.

American Savannah Berry was second with compatriot Makenna Myler third.

Thackery’s time is also the third-fastest on debut among European athletes behind Radcliffe and Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands.

Radcliffe’s British record is 2:15:25, set at the 2003 London Marathon.

It caps a memorable few weeks for Thackery, who won The Big Half half-marathon in London in September and finished seventh in the half-marathon at the World Road Running Championships in Latvia earlier this month.

Eritrea’s Tsegay Tuemay won the men’s race in a time of 2:11:04, with Tiidrek Nurme of Estonia second and American Jonas Hampton third.
