England striker Rachel Daly scored a hat-trick as Aston Villa claimed their first victory of the season in the Women’s League Cup group stage.

After five straight league defeats, Villa won 5-0 at Women’s Championship side Sheffield United as Daly netted three goals in 26 minutes.

Ebony Salmon and Danielle Turner were also on target for Villa.

Meanwhile, a double from Chloe Kelly helped Manchester City record a thrilling 4-3 success at Liverpool.

Defender Gemma Bonner scored in her 135th Liverpool game – becoming their record appearance holder in all competitions, overtaking Ashley Hodson’s tally.

She was joined on the scoresheet at Prenton Park by Natasha Flint and teenager Mia Enderby, who claimed her first Liverpool goal since joining in the summer with an injury-time effort.

Filippa Angeldal and Jess Park also netted for group leaders City, before substitute Kelly struck twice in 12 minutes to inflict a second defeat in as many games for the Reds in the competition this season.

Elsewhere, Durham beat north-east rivals Sunderland 3-1 in a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw to claim a bonus point, while Lexi Lloyd-Smith’s 85th-minute goal clinched a 1-0 victory for Southampton at Reading.
