How Consumers Are Spending Is a Reason for Cheer

Americans spent a bit less in stores last month. That hardly means it is the beginning of the end for the U.S. consumer.

The Commerce Department on Wednesday reported that retail sales slipped 0.1% in October from September. That actually counted as a decent number. Here is why:
