Ulster are monitoring the fitness of a number of players, including Ireland internationals Iain Henderson and Rob Herring, before their Investec Champions Cup opener against Bath.

The Irish province will take on the team sitting second in the Premiership at the Rec on Saturday afternoon.

Henderson and Michael Lowry have been nursing hip injuries while Herring has been overcoming a calf complaint.

Fly-half Jake Flannery is recovering from a groin problem.

“Rob Herring, Michael Lowry, Iain Henderson, and Jake Flannery have all now resumed team training following their respective recent injuries and their fitness for selection for this week’s game will be monitored during training in the coming days,” read a squad update issued on behalf of Ulster Rugby on Tuesday.

Ulster also disclosed that Will Addison is following World Rugby’s return to play protocol after sustaining a concussion in Saturday’s URC defeat by Edinburgh, while Ben Moxham suffered a knee injury in the Kingspan Stadium encounter.

Moxham has had an MRI scan to ascertain the extent of his injury.

Among those who will remain out of contention for the Irish province’s first game in Pool 2 of the Champions Cup is in-form flanker David McCann, who has an ankle injury.

After travelling to face Bath, Ulster will host French Top 14 leaders Racing 92 at Kingspan Stadium on 16 December, followed by the visit of Toulouse to Belfast on 13 January and an away fixture against Harlequins seven days later.

Ulster have fallen at the last-16 knockout stage of the competition in both of the last two seasons.

They begin their European campaign on the back of successive URC defeats by Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh.
